Helping Others to Help Themselves with Practical Education and Creative Learning
A Stella in Cambodia Initiative
Stella, a British Lady, startet as a Volunteer at an Cambodian School and decided to start her own project. She opened up her first School in a small Village around 1 hour drive from Siem Reap.
It was intended for 20 of the poorest kids but on opening day 80 kids turned up to enroll, but she managed to give all kids a place. With no other chance of learning English, they saw it as a chance to avoid working at the brick factory and get a better job.
Interesting follow up is there was a big drop in numbers afterwards and we found out that many of the kids lived alone with younger siblings (their parents were away working in Thailand) so they had to stay at home and guard the house.
